ബ്രൂസിലി ജീവചരിത്രം.
ഒരു സാധാരണ മനുഷ്യന് ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയുന്നതിന് അപ്പുറത്തേക്ക് ഒരുപാട് കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തുകൂട്ടിയ ഒരു അത്ഭുതം മനുഷ്യൻ. ലീജ് ഉൽഫാൻ എന്ന് പേരുള്ള നമ്മുടെ സ്വന്തം ബ്രൂസിലിയെ കുറിച്ചാണ്.
അത്ഭുത മനുഷ്യൻ എന്തു കൊണ്ടും അങ്ങനൊരു പേരിന് പൂർണമായും അര്‍ഹനാണ് ബ്രൂസിലി. ഒരു ഡാൻസർ എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഒരു ഫിലോസഫർ എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഒരു ആക്ടർ എന്ന നിലയിൽ ഒരു മാർഷൽ ആർട്ടിസ്റ്റ് എന്ന നിലയിലൊക്കെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ കഴിവുകൾ അദ്ദേഹം ലോകത്തിനു മുന്നിൽ പ്രദർശിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ കഴിവുകളായി എണ്ണി പറയുന്ന ചില കാര്യങ്ങളുണ്ട്. അതിലൊന്ന് ഒരു സെക്കൻഡിൽ തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് 9 പ പഞ്ചുകൾ അതായത് 9 തവണ ഒരാളെ ഒരു സെക്കൻഡ് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഇടിക്കാൻ കഴിയും എന്നുള്ളതാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ഫൈറ്റിംഗ് സ്പീഡ് വളരെ വലുതാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ മൂവീസുകളിലൊക്കെ ഫൈറ്റിംഗിന്റെ ഭാഗങ്ങളൊക്കെ ഡയറക്ടർമാർ എഡിറ്റിങ്ങിലെ പ്രത്യേകമായി തന്നെ ആ ഭാഗം സ്‌ലോ ആക്കിയിട്ടാണ് പ്രേക്ഷകരുടെ മുന്നിൽ പ്രദർശിപ്പിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരിക്കുക.
അല്ല എങ്കിൽ പെട്ടെന്ന് ഒന്നും എന്താണ് സംഭവിച്ചത് എന്ന് കാണികൾക്ക് മനസ്സിലാവാത്ത ഒരു രീതിയിൽ അത്രയും ഫാസ്റ്റ് ആയിട്ട് ആയിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ ഒരു മൂവ്മെൻ്റുകളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. അതുപോലെതന്നെ ഹോളിവുഡ് ഇൻഡസ്ട്രിയിൽ തന്നെ മാർഷൽ ആർട്ടിന് ഒരു ഇംപോർട്ടറ്റൻസ് വരാനും അമേരിക്കക്കാർക്ക് ഇടയിൽ മാർഷൽ ആർട്ടിന് വളരെ ലളിതമായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചതും ഒക്കെ ബ്രൂസിലി ആണ്. അമേരിക്കയിൽ ജോലി ചെയ്യാൻ എത്തിയ ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകനായി 1940 നവംബർ 27ന് സാൻ്റ് ഫ്രാൻസിസ്കോയിലെ ചൈന ടൗണിലെ ചൈനീസ് ഹോസ്പിറ്റൽ ആണ് നമ്മുടെ ബ്രൂസിലി ജനിക്കുന്നത്. ബ്രൂസിലി ജനിച്ച് കുറച്ച് നാളുകൾ പിന്നിട്ടുമ്പോൾ അവർ അവരുടെ ജന്മനാട്ടിലേക്ക് അവരുടെ നാടായ ഹോങ്കോങ്ങിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു വരികയാണ്. ഹോങ്കോങ്ങിലായിരുന്നു ബ്രൂസിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ പ്രാഥമിക പഠനങ്ങളൊക്കെ നടത്തിയത്. ഒരു സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒതുങ്ങി നിൽക്കാത്ത ഒരു രീതിയിലായിരുന്നു ബ്രൂസിലിയുടെ പ്രകൃതം. അതോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ പഠനത്തിലും വളരെ മോശമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം. ഇങ്ങനെ പഠനത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹം പുറകിൽ ആയതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ 12-ാം മത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് സ്കൂൾ മാറേണ്ടതായി വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്.
ഈ കാലയളവിൽ എല്ലാം സ്ട്രീറ്റ് ഫൈറ്റ് നടത്തുക അല്ലെങ്കിൽ തെരുവിൽ പോയി തല്ല് ഉണ്ടാക്കുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു ബ്രൂസിലിയുടെ പ്രധാന ഹോബി. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ സെൽഫ് പ്രൊട്ടക്ഷന് വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ മാതാപിതാക്കളെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ മാർഷൽ ആർട്സ് പഠിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി പറഞ്ഞയക്കുകയാണ്. അങ്ങനെ ഒരുപാട് ഗുരുക്കന്മാരിൽ നിന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം മാർഷൽ ആർട്സായ Knug Fu പഠിച്ചെടുക്കുകയാണ്. പതിനാറാമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ അദ്ദേഹം എത്തുമ്പോൾ മാർഷൽ ആർട്‌സിൽ തന്നെ (Knug Fu ) തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന Yuk Men ൽ നിന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം ഒരുപാട് കാര്യങ്ങൾക്കും Knug Fu ൽ പ്രാവീണം നേടുകയാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന സമയത്തു പോലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ഹോബിയായിട്ടുള്ള സ്ട്രീറ്റ് ഫയ്റ്റിങ്ങ് അദ്ദേഹം നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ വീട്ടുകാർക്ക് ഒരു വലിയ തലവേദന തന്നെയായിരുന്നു ഇത്. അദ്ദേഹം ആ സമയത്ത് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ന്യായം ആരുടെ പക്കലാണോ അവർക്ക് വേണ്ടീട്ട് ഞാൻ തല്ലുണ്ടാക്കുമെന്നാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെയിരിക്കുന്ന സമയത്താണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ സ്കൂളിലെ ടീച്ചറും അതുപോലെതന്നെ ബോക്സിങ് ടീമിൻറെ കോച്ച് ആയിട്ടുള്ള ബ്രദർ എഡ്വെയ്ഡ് ചലഞ്ച് ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇങ്ങനെ ആരെങ്കിലുമൊക്കെ ഇടിച്ചു നടക്കുന്നതിനു പകരം നിനക്ക് സ്കൂൾ ബോക്സിങ്ങ് ടീമിൽ മത്സരിച്ച് ഒന്നാം സ്ഥാനം കരസ്ഥമാക്കാൻ കഴിമോ ‘എന്നതായിരുന്നു ആ ചലഞ്ച്.
പിന്നീടുള്ള നാളുകൾ അദ്ദേഹം അതിനുവേണ്ടി കഠിനമായി തന്നെ പരിശ്രമം നടക്കുകയാണ്. ടൂർണമെന്റിന്റെ ഫൈനൽ റൗഡിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് കഴിഞ്ഞ മൂന്ന് തവണയും ചാമ്പ്യനായ ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ അതൊന്നും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഒരു വിഷയമായില്ല. അദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ ആ ഒരു ടൂർണമെൻറ് ജയിക്കുകയാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെ ടൂർണമെൻ്റിനു വേണ്ടി നടന്നു കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ കുറിച്ച് നാളത്തേക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം തൻ്റെ ഹോബി ഒക്കെ മറന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ കുറച്ചുനാളത്തേക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ കൊണ്ടുള്ള വല്യ ശല്യങ്ങൾ ഒന്നും വീട്ടുകാർക്ക് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. കൂടുതൽ കേസുകളോ പരാതികളൊ ഒന്നും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. പക്ഷെ കുറച്ചു നാളുകൾ പിന്നിടുമ്പോൾ 1959 ആകുമ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ പേരിൽ ഒരു കേസ് പോലീസ് സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ രജിസ്റ്റർ ചെയ്യപ്പെടുകയാണ്. സ്ട്രീറ്റ് ഫെയ്ഫയ്റ്റിങ്ങ് തന്നെയായിരുന്നു അതിനു കാരണം. ആ സമയത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് മാതാപിതാക്കൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കുകയാണ് ഇനി ഇവൻ ഇവിടെ നിന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ഇതിലും ഒരുപാട് ഗുരുതരം ആകുമെന്ന്. കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം ആ സമയത്ത് ഫയറ്റ് ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് വളരെ അധികം ക്രിമിനൽ ബേ ഗ്രൗണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ 1959 ൽ തൻ്റെ 19-ാംമത്തെ വയസ്സിൽ അദ്ദേഹം അമേരിക്കയിലേക്ക് യാത്ര തിരക്കാണ്. അന്യ നാട്ടിൽ യാതൊരു പരിചയം ഇല്ലാത്ത ആളുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ആകുമ്പോൾ കൂടുതൽ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ ഒന്നും ഉണ്ടാകില്ല എന്നതായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ ഒരു കാഴ്ചപ്പാട്.
അവരുടെ കാഴ്ചപ്പാട് 100% ശരിയായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീടുള്ള ഒന്നുരണ്ട് വർഷങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ബ്രൂസിലി യാതൊരുവിധത്തിലുള്ള അടിപിടി കേസുകൾ ഒന്നും പെടാതെ നല്ല രീതിയിൽ തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻറെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവുമായി മുന്നോട് പോയി. അങ്ങനെ 1961 ആകുമ്പോഴേക്കും അദ്ദേഹം ഫിലോസഫിയിലും സൈക്കോളജിയിലുമൊക്കെ ബിരുദ്ധം നേടുകയാണ്. ഈ ഒരു കാലയളവിൽ തന്നെ Jufan Kung Fu എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള മാർഷൽ ആർട്‌സിൻ്റെ സെൻ്റർ തുടങ്ങിയിട്ട് ചെറിയ രീതിയിൽ തന്നെ തനിക്ക് അറിയുന്ന Kung Fu ഒക്കെ അമേരിക്കൻസിനെ പഠിപ്പിച്ച് കൊടുക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ബ്രൂസിലി.
അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് ഒരു സ്കൂളിൻറെ ആന്യുവൽ ഫംഗ്ഷന് വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് ബ്രൂസിലിയെ ക്ഷണിക്കുന്നത്. ബ്രൂസിലി ആ സമയത്തും ഒരു ചെറിയ പയ്യനാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ആ ഒരു ഫംഗ്ഷനിൽ വച്ച് കണ്ടപ്പോൾ ആളുകൾക്ക് ഒരു പുച്ഛം ഫീൽ ആണ് ഉണ്ടായത്. ഈ ചെറിയ പയ്യൻ ഇവിടെ വന്ന് എന്ത് കാണിക്കാനാണ് എന്ന രീതിയിലായിരുന്നു അവരൊക്കൊ ആ സമയത്ത് ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിക്കുന്നത്.പക്ഷേ അവരുടെ ചിന്തയൊന്നും കൂടുതൽ നേരം നില നിന്നില്ല. അദ്ദേഹം ഓഡിയൻസിൽ പെട്ട അത്യാവശ്യം വെയ്റ്റും ഹൈറ്റും ഉള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തിയെ ഫൈറ്റിനുവേണ്ടി വിളിക്കുകയാണ്. അവർ ഇരുവരും ഫൈറ്റിനുവേണ്ടി തയ്യാറായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഓഡിയൻസ് മുഴുവൻ ചിന്തിക്കുന്ന ഒരേ ഒരു കാര്യം ബ്രൂസിലി ഇപ്പോൾ നിലത്തു വീഴും എന്നുള്ളതാണ്. പക്ഷെ ബ്രൂസിലിയുടെ ഒറ്റ പഞ്ച് കൊണ്ട് ഒറ്റ ഇടിക്കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തേക്കാൾ ഒരുപാട് വെയ്റ്റും ഹൈറ്റും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ആ മനുഷ്യൻ നിലം പതിച്ചു. ഈ ഒരു സംഭവത്തോടുകൂടി ബ്രൂസിലിചെറിയ രീതിയിൽ അറിയപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങുകയാണ്.
അതോടൊപ്പം തന്നെ ഒരുപാട് അമേരിക്കൻസ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സ്റ്റുഡൻറ് ആയിട്ട് മാർഷൽ ആർട്സ് ( Kung Fu) പഠിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കൂടെ ചേരുകയാണ്. പക്ഷേ ഈ സമയത്ത് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഒരുപാട് ശത്രുക്കളും വളർന്നു വന്നിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ശത്രുക്കൾ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞത് അമേരക്കയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ചൈനക്കാർ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. അവർ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നത് Kung Fu എന്നത് നമ്മുടെ ഒരു പാരമ്പര്യത്തിൻ്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്. അത് ഒരിക്കലും ഇത്തരത്തിൽ വെള്ളക്കാർക്ക് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അമേരിക്കക്കാർക്ക് പഠിപ്പിച്ച് കൊടുക്കരുത് എന്നായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷേ അതൊന്നും ചെവി കൊള്ളാൻ ഒരിക്കലും ബ്രൂസിലി തയ്യാറായിരുന്നില്ല. ബ്രൂസിലി അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ആയോധനകലകളുമായി അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ടീച്ചിങ്ങുമായി അദ്ദേഹം മുന്നോട് പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ഇരിക്കുമ്പോഴാണ് അമേരിക്കയിലുള്ള ചൈനക്കാർ ബ്രൂസിലിയെ ഒരു ടൂർണമെൻ്റിനു വേണ്ടി ക്ഷണിക്കുന്നത്.
ആ ടൂർണമെറ്റിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഒരു നിയമം അവർ പറഞ്ഞ ഒരുകാര്യം ഈ ടൂർണമെന്റിൽ ബ്രൂസില് ജയിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പഴയപോലെ തന്നെ മാർഷൽ ആർട്സ് അമേരിക്കയിൽ ടീച്ചിങ്ങ് നടത്താമെന്നും ഇനി തോറ്റു പോകുകയാണെങ്കിൽ അമേരിക്കയിൽ പിന്നീട് ഒരുകാലത്തേക്ക് അദ്ദേഹം മാർഷൽ ആർട്സ് (Kung Fu) ഒരിക്കലും പഠിപ്പിച്ചു കൊടുക്കരുത് എന്നുമാണ് അവർ ആ ടൂർണമെറ്റിൽ വച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്ന നിയമം. ഈ ടൂർണമെൻ്റിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് നേരിട്ടേണ്ടി വന്നത് അമേരിക്കയിൽ തന്നെ ഒരുപാട് കാലങ്ങൾ ആയിട്ട് ചൈനക്കാർക്ക് മാത്രം Kung Fu പഠിപ്പിച്ചു കൊടുത്തിരുന്ന ഒരു മാസ്റ്ററേയായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ ഫൈറ്റ് ആരംഭിച്ച് മൂന്നു മിനിറ്റുകൾ കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ബ്രൂസിലി അയാളെ മലർത്തി അടിക്കുകയാണ്. വെറും മൂന്നു മിനിറ്റ് കൊണ്ട് വോം ജാക്ക് മേൻ എന്ന് പറയുന്ന മാസ്റ്ററെ ബ്രൂസി തോൽപ്പിച്ചെങ്കിലും ആ സമയത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം നിരാശനായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ആ സമയത്ത് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഒരു കാര്യം ഞാൻ ആദ്യമായിട്ടാണ് ഇത്രയും സമയം ഒരു വ്യക്തിയെ തോൽപ്പിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടി എടുക്കുന്നത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ഞാൻ ഇനിയും ഒരുപാട് പ്രാക്ടീസ് ചെയ്യേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ ഇനിയും ഒരുപാട് മെച്ചപ്പെടുത്തേണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നായിരുന്നു. ഈ ഒരു കാര്യത്തോട് കൂടി തന്നെ ബ്രൂസിലി അമേരിക്കയിൽ മുഴുവൻ ഫേയ്മസ് ആവുകയാണ്. ഇതുതന്നെയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം ഹോളിവുഡിൽ എത്താൻ ഒരു കാരണമായത് എന്ന് വേണമെങ്കിൽ നമുക്ക് പറയാം.
1964ൽ തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം ചെറിയ ചില ഫിലിമുകൾ ഒക്കെ അഭിനയിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ചെറിയ വേഷങ്ങളായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ പോലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ പെർഫോമൻസ് വളരെ വലുതായതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ പിന്നീട് ഒരുപാട് മൂവികളും ഒരുപാട് സീരീസുകളിലൊക്കെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് വേഷം ലഭിക്കുകയാണ്. ഈയൊരു കാലയളവിൽ തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് ഒരുപാട് ശത്രുക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അതിൽ ഒന്നാമത്തേത് അമേരിക്കയിലുള്ള ചൈനക്കാരാണെങ്കിൽ രണ്ടാമത്തേത് അമേരിക്കക്കാർ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. പുറം രാജ്യത്ത് നിന്ന് വന്ന ഒരു വ്യക്തി ഇവിടെ എത്ര വലിയ ഫേയ്മസ് ആയിട്ട് ഫിലിമുകളിലൊക്കെ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നത് അമേരിക്കക്കാരിൽ ചില ആളുകൾക്കൊന്നും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. ഈ കാലയളവിൽ അദ്ദേഹം നേടിയ ചില അമാനുഷികമായ ചില റെക്കോഡുകൾ കൂടിയുണ്ട്. 1500 തവണ നിർത്താതെ അദ്ദേഹം പുഷ്പപ് എടുത്തിരുന്നു. അതുപോലെതന്നെ ഒരു കൈകൊണ്ട് 600 തവണയും രണ്ടു വിരലുകൾ മാത്രം ഉപയോഗിച്ചിരുന്ന 400 തവണയും ഒരൊറ്റ വിരല് മാത്രം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് 100 തവണയും അദ്ദേഹം പുഷ്പ്പെടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
