കടമറ്റത്ത് കത്തനാരുടെ ജീവചരിത്രം.

തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ കടമറ്റത്ത് ഒരു ദരിദ്ര കുടുംബത്തിലാണ് കടമറ്റത്ത് കത്തനാർ എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെട്ട പൗലോസ് ജനിക്കുന്നത്. അദ്ദേഹം ജനിച്ചു കുറച്ചു നാളുകൾ പിന്നിടുമ്പോൾ ദരിദ്രർ ആയിട്ടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും മരണപ്പെടുകയാണ്. പിന്നീടുള്ള അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ജീവിതം അനാഥനായിട്ടായിരുന്നു. തൻ്റെ ആ ചെറ്റക്കുടിലിൽ ഒറ്റക്ക് താമസിക്കുന്നതിനേക്കാൾ അദ്ദേഹം ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത് കടമറ്റത്ത് പള്ളിയിൽ പോയിട്ട് തൻ്റെ സങ്കടങ്ങളെല്ലാം ദൈവത്തോട് പറയുക എന്നതായിരുന്നു.
അങ്ങനെയിരിക്കെയാണ് കടമറ്റത്ത് പള്ളിയിലെ പ്രധാന വികാരി ആയിട്ടുള്ള കത്തനാരച്ചൻ പൗലോസിൻ്റെ സ്വഭാവഗുണങ്ങൾ എല്ലാം മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നത്. അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം അവനെ പൗലോസിനെ മകനായി സ്വീകരിച്ച് തൻ്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരികയാണ്. പൗലോസിനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ വീട്ടിൽ യാതൊരുവിധ കുറവുകളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. കത്തനാരച്ചനും ഒരുപണക്കാരൻ ആയതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ സുഖലോലുപതയിൽ തന്നെ ജീവിക്കാനുള്ള എല്ലാ വകുപ്പുകളും പൗലോസിന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ അവിടെയും അദ്ദേഹം മിധ്വതം പാലിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് വളരെ ലളിതമായ ജീവതം നയിച്ച് മുന്നോട് പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. പൗലോസിൻ്റെ സ്വഭാവങ്ങളിൽ ആകർഷണ ആയിട്ടുള്ള കത്തനാരച്ചൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തൻ്റെ പിൻഗാമിയായിട്ട് നിയമിക്കാനുള്ള തീരുമാനങ്ങൾ എടുക്കുകയാണ്. അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പൗലോസിനെ ഒരു ഗുരുനാഥനെ ഏൽപ്പിക്കുകയും എല്ലാവിധ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസങ്ങൾ നൽകുവാനും അതുപോലെതന്നെ സുറിയാനി ഭാഷ അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്കാനും ഒരു കത്തനാർക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ടുള്ള യോഗ്യതക്കുള്ള എല്ലാ കാര്യങ്ങളും പഠിപ്പിക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പറഞ്ഞേൽപ്പിക്കുകയാണ്.
അങ്ങനെ അഞ്ച് വർഷങ്ങൾ പിന്നിടുമ്പോൾ എല്ലാ വിധ അറിവുകളും നേടി മലയാളം സുറിയാനി അതുപോലെ തന്നെ ഒരു പട്ടം ലഭിക്കാൻ ആവശ്യമായിട്ടുള്ള എല്ലാവിധ അറിവുകളും നേടിക്കൊണ്ട് പൗലൊസ് അവിടെ നിന്ന് തിരിച്ചുവരികയാണ്. തിരിച്ചു വന്ന പൗലോസിനെ ശെമ്മാശ പട്ടം കിട്ടുകയും അതുപോലെതന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം പൗലോസ് ശെമ്മാശൻ എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്യുകയാണ്. ഇങ്ങനെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന ഈ കാലത്താണ് സുപ്രധാനമായിട്ടുള്ള പല സംഭവങ്ങളും അരങ്ങേറുന്നത്.
കത്തനാരച്ചൻ്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ഒരുപാട് പശുക്കളുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പശുകളെ വളരെയധികം ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള ഒരുവ്യക്തി ആയിരുന്നു കത്തനാരച്ചൻ. പൗലോസിനെ എടുത്ത് വളർത്തിയിട്ടുള്ള വികാരി ആയിട്ടുള്ള ആൾ. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ വീട്ടിലുള്ള പശുക്കളെ ദിവസവും രാവിലെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ഭ്യത്ത്യൻ കാട്ടിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടു പോയിട്ട് മേയ്ക്കുകയും വൈകുന്നേരം ആകുമ്പോൾ തിരിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവരികയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു.
അങ്ങനെ ഒരുദിവസം കാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോയപ്പോൾ ഒരു കടുവ അവരുടെ മുന്നിലേക്ക് പെട്ടെന്ന് ചാടി വീഴുകയും കൂട്ടത്തിലുള്ള ഒരുപശുവിനെ കടിച്ചെടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് കാട്ടിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുപോവുകയും ചെയ്തു.കടുവയെ കണ്ടതോടുകൂടി തന്നെ ദൃത്ത്യനും ബാക്കിയുള്ള പശുക്കളുമെല്ലാം ചിതറി ഓടുകയാണ്. ഭ്യത്ത്യൻ വന്ന് കത്തനാരച്ചനോട് കാര്യങ്ങളെല്ലാം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ കത്തനാരച്ചന് അത് ഭയങ്കരമായിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു വിഷമമായി മാറി. കാരണം അദ്ദേഹം വളരെയധികം ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നു ഈ പശുക്കളെ.
അങ്ങനെ കത്തനാരച്ചനും ഏതാനും ആളുകളും അതുപോലെതന്നെ പൗലോസ് ശെമ്മാശനും കൂടെ ആയുധങ്ങളുമായിട്ട് പശുക്കളെ തേടി കാട്ടിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങുകയാണ്. ഒരുപാട് നേരം തിരഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും അവർക്ക് കാര്യമായിട്ട് കൂടുതൽ പശുക്കളെ ഒന്നും കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. നേരം രാത്രിയായി തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ അവർ എല്ലാവരും തിരിച്ചുവരികയാണ്. തിരിച്ചു വന്നു നോക്കിയ സമയത്ത് കാണാതായിട്ടുള്ള പശുക്കളിൽ ഭൂരിഭാഗവും കത്തനാരച്ചൻ്റെ വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്ത് തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
ആ സമയത്താണ് കത്തനാരച്ചൻ ആ കാര്യം തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നത്. പശുക്കളെ തിരയാൻ പോയ പൗലോസ് ശെമ്മാശൻ മാത്രം തിരിച്ചെത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. കത്തനാരച്ചന് അപ്പോൾ എന്ത് ചെയ്യണം എന്ന് പോലും അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹം ആകെ തകർന്നു പോവുകയാണ്. തൻ്റെ മകൻ്റെ സ്ഥാനത്ത് കണ്ടിരുന്ന ഒരുവ്യക്തിയെ കാണാതായപ്പോൾ അദ്ദേഹം ആകെ ആവലാതിപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങി.
പക്ഷെ ആ സമയത്ത് നേരം ഇരുട്ടിയിരുന്നു എന്നതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ പൗലോസിനെ തേടിപ്പോകാൻ ആരും തുനിഞ്ഞില്ല. പിറ്റേ ദിവസം രാവിലെ തന്നെ കത്തനാരച്ചനും ഏതാനും ആളുകളും ആയുധങ്ങളുമായിട്ട് കാട്ടിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുകയാണ്. എന്നാൽ മൂന്നാല് ദിവസം ഇത്തരത്തിൽ തിരഞ്ഞിട്ടുപോലും പൗലോസിൻ്റെ യാതൊരു വിവരവും കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. അങ്ങനെ നാട്ടുകാരും വീട്ടുകാരും എല്ലാവരും ഉറപ്പിക്കുകയാണ്. പൗലോസിനെയും പുലി പിടിച്ചു എന്ന്. നാട്ടുകാർ ഇക്കാര്യം ആവർത്തിച്ച് ആവർത്തിച്ച് കത്തനാരച്ചനോട് പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹം അത് വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ തയ്യാറായിരുന്നില്ല.
അദ്ദേഹം സദാ പൗലൊസിനു വേണ്ടി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു കൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. കത്തനാരച്ചൻ്റെ കണക്കുകൂട്ടലുകൾ ശരിയായിരുന്നു. പൗലോസിനെ ഒരിക്കലും പുലി പിടിച്ചത് ആയിരുന്നില്ല. നേരം ഒരുപാട് ഇരുട്ടിയപ്പോൾ തനിക്ക് മുന്നിലുള്ള വഴിയിലൂടെ പൗലോസ് അതിവേഗം നടക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി അതിനാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ഒരുപാട് ഒരുപാട് നടന്നെങ്കിൽ പോലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കാട്ടിൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് വരാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. അദ്ദേഹം ഉൾക്കാടു കളിലേക്ക് ആയിരുന്നു നടന്നു കയറിയിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.
അവസാനം അദ്ദേഹം എത്തിപ്പെട്ടത് വലിയൊരു ഗുഹയുടെ മുന്നിലായിരുന്നു. ഗുഹയ്ക്ക് മുന്നിൽ വിവസ്ത്ര ആയിട്ട് നിന്നിരുന്ന കാട്ടാളന്മാരെ കണക്ക് തോന്നിക്കുന്ന ഭീമാകാരന്മാരായിട്ടുള്ള വ്യക്തികൾ അദ്ദേഹത്തെയും കൊണ്ട് ആ ഗുഹയുടെ ആഴങ്ങളിലേക്ക് നടന്നു നീങ്ങുകയാണ്. എന്നാൽ അടിയിലേക്ക് അടിയിലേക്ക് പോകുംതോറും എന്തൊരു വെളിച്ചം കൂടിക്കൂടി വരുന്നതായിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് തോന്നി. പൗലോസിനെ ആ കാട്ടാളന്മാർ കൊണ്ടെത്തിച്ചത് അവരുടെ മൂപ്പൻ എന്ന് തോന്നിക്കുന്ന തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു വ്യക്തിയുടെ മുമ്പിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.
ആ സമയത്ത് ആ കാട്ടാളന്മാർ ആ മൂപ്പനോട് പറയുന്ന ഒരു കാര്യം പൗലോസ് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുകയാണ്. ഇവനെ ഇന്ന് തന്നെ നമുക്ക് ഭക്ഷണം ആക്കിയാലോ. ഇതുകൂടി കേട്ടപ്പോൾ പൗലോസ് ആകെ പരിഭ്രാന്തനാവുകയാണ്. എന്നാൽ അദ്ദേഹം ആ പരിഭ്രാന്തിയെ തൻ്റെ മുഖത്ത് കാണിക്കാതെ ധൈര്യം സംഭരിച്ച് നിൽക്കുകയാണ്. പൗലോസ് ആ സമയത്ത് ചുറ്റും നോക്കിയപ്പോൾ തന്നെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരുന്ന ആളുകൾക്ക് വിവസ്ത്രരായി തന്നെ ഒരുപാട് ആളുകൾ അവിടെയെങ്ങും കൂടി നിൽക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
ആ സമയത്ത് മൂപ്പൻ അവിടെ കൂടിനിന്നിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ അനുയായികളോട് ആയിട്ട് പറയുകയാണ്. ഇവനെ എന്തായാലും നമുക്ക് ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ തീരുമാനമാക്കേണ്ട. ഏതാനും കുറച്ച് ദിവസങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ നിന്നോട്ടെ. ഇവൻ്റെ കാര്യങ്ങൾ എങ്ങനെയൊക്കെയാണെന്ന് അറിഞ്ഞതിന് ശേഷം മാത്രം നമുക്ക് ഭക്ഷിക്കാമെന്ന്. അതിനുശേഷം മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസ് നേരെ തിരിയുകയും അദ്ദേഹത്തോട് ആയിട്ട് എന്നെ അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കുകയാണെങ്കിൽ നിനക്ക് സുഖസുന്ദരമായിട്ട് ഇവിടെ ജീവിക്കാമെന്നും അല്ലാത്തപക്ഷം നിന്ന് ഇപ്പോൾ തന്നെ ഞങ്ങൾ ഭക്ഷണമാക്കുമെന്നും പറയുകയാണ്.
ആ സമയത്ത് എങ്ങനെയെങ്കിലും ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് രക്ഷപ്പെടണം എന്ന ചിന്ത മാത്രമാണ് പൗലോസിന് മനസ്സിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നതെങ്കിൽ പോലും മൂപ്പൻ പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങൾ പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്യാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് പോലും നിർബന്ധിതനാവുകയാണ്. എന്നെങ്കിലും ഒരിക്കൽ ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് രക്ഷപ്പെടണം എന്ന് തന്നെയായിരുന്നു പൗലോസിൻ്റെ മനസ്സിൽ ആ സമയത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. വൃത്തിഹീനമായ അന്തരീക്ഷത്തിൽ ജീവിക്കുക എന്നത് പൗലോസിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചിടത്തോളം ഭയങ്കര ഒരു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ട് നിറഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള കാര്യം തന്നെയായിരുന്നു.
ഈ അവസരങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസിൻ്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പഠിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുക ആയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ സ്വഭാവത്തിൽ വളരെ നല്ല ഒരുപാട് കാര്യങ്ങൾ കണ്ട മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസിനെ തൻ്റെ അനന്തരാവകാശിയായിട്ട് തൻ്റെ പിൻഗാമിയായിട്ട് നിയമിക്കാമെന്ന തീരുമാനത്തിലെത്തുകയാണ്. ഒരുപാട് അധികം മന്ത്രവിദ്യകളും ഇന്ദ്രജാലം മഹേന്ദ്രജാലം ഒക്കെ അറിയുന്ന വ്യക്തിയായിരുന്നു മൂപ്പൻ തനിക്കറിയാവുന്ന എല്ലാ വിധ അറിവുകളും മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസിനുകൂടെ പഠിപ്പിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുകയാണ്.
അങ്ങനെ അത്തരത്തിൽ 12 വർഷക്കാലം അഥവാ ഒരു വ്യാഴ വട്ടക്കാലം പൗലോസ് ആ ഗുഹക്കകത്ത് തന്നെ ജീവിക്കുകയാണ്. ഇത്രയും വലിയൊരു കാലം അവിടെ താമസിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ മൂപ്പനുമായിട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അഭേദ്യമായിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു ഗുരുശിഷ്യബന്ധം തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്നാൽ പോലും പൗലോസ് അപ്പോഴും ചിന്തിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു ഒരു കാര്യം എങ്ങനെയെങ്കിലും പുറത്തുപോകണം. തൻ്റെ നാടായ കടമറ്റത്തേക്ക് തിരിച്ചു പോകണം. തന്നെ വളർത്തി വലുതാക്കിയട്ടുള്ള കത്തനാരച്ചനെ കാണണം എന്ന് തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. ഈ ഒരു കാര്യം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ മനസ്സിൽ സദാ ചിന്തിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്ന കാര്യത്തിൽ പോലും വ്യത്യാസങ്ങൾ വന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു. ഈ ഒരു കാര്യം ശ്രദ്ധിച്ച മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസിനെ നോക്കാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് പ്രത്യേകം കാവൽക്കാരെ ഏർപ്പാടാക്കുകയാണ്.
എങ്ങാനും പൗലോസ് ഇവിടെ നിന്നും ചാടിപ്പോകുമോ എന്നത് തന്നെ ആയിരുന്നു മൂപ്പനെ ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു പ്രവർത്തി ചെയ്യാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് നിർബന്ധിതനാക്കിട്ട് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. എന്നാൽ ഓരോ ദിവസങ്ങളും കഴിയുന്തോറും പൗലോസിൻ്റെ സ്ഥിതി മോശമായി വരാൻ തുടങ്ങുകയാണ്. അതോടുകൂടി പൗലോസിനെ മൂപ്പൻ അടുത്ത് വിളിക്കുകയും നിനക്ക് ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് പോകാൻ താല്പര്യമുണ്ടോ എന്ന് ചോദിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുകയാണ്. ആ സമയത്ത് പൗലോസ് മറുപടി ആയിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നുത് ഒരിക്കലും നിങ്ങളെ വിട്ട് ഇവിടുന്ന് പോകാൻ ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ എൻ്റെ വളർത്തച്ഛൻ ആയിട്ടുള്ള കത്തനാരച്ചനെ ഒന്ന് പോയി കാണണം. എൻ്റെ നാട്ടിൽ ഒന്ന് പോകണം എന്ന ചെറിയ ഒരു ആഗ്രഹം എൻ്റെ മനസ്സിലുണ്ട് എന്നായിരുന്നു.
ഇത് കേട്ടതോടുകൂടി മൂപ്പന് പൗലോസിനോടുള്ള വാത്സല്യം ഒന്നുകൂടെ അധികരിക്കുകയാണ്. മൂപ്പൻ പൗലോസിന് കൊടുത്ത ഒരു മറുപടി ഇപ്രകാരമായിരുന്നു. ഒരിക്കലും നിന്നെ ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുവിടാൻ വേണ്ടിയിട്ട് ഞാൻ ആരോടും ആജ്ഞാനാപ്പിക്കില്ല. അതേ സമയത്ത് തന്നെ നിനക്ക് വേണമെന്നുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ ഇവിടെ നിന്നും രക്ഷപെട്ടു പോകാവുന്നതാണ്. ഒരു കാരണവശാലും ഈ ഗുഹയേക്കുറിച്ച് ഞങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചോ ആരോടും നീ പറയാൻ പാടില്ല. അതുപോലെ തന്നെ മൂപ്പനായ നിൻ്റെ ഗുരുനാഥനായ എന്നെയും നീ ഒരിക്കലും മറക്കരുത് എന്ന്. ഈ ഒരു മറുപടി കേട്ടപ്പോൾ പൗലോസിൻ്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ വലിയ ഒരു സന്തോഷം തന്നെയാണ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നത്.
അന്നത്തെ രാത്രിയിൽ തനിക്ക് കാവൽ നിന്നിരുന്ന വ്യക്തികളെ എല്ലാം തൻ്റെ മന്ത്ര വിദ്യയിലൂടെ മയക്കിക്കിടത്തിയശേഷം പൗലോസ് ഗുഹയിൽ നിന്നും പുറത്തിറങ്ങുകയാണ്. ഗുഹയിൽ നിന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ സമയത്ത് വിവസ്ത്രനായിട്ടായിരുന്നു ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹം ആ ഗുഹയിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുമ്പോൾ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു വരുന്ന സമയത്ത് അദ്ദേഹം ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന വസ്ത്രം അദ്ദേഹം സൂക്ഷിച്ചു വെച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ആ വസ്ത്രങ്ങൾ ധരിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ നാടിനെ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കിയിട്ട് യാത്ര ചെയ്യുകയാണ്.
